Frank Branson is one of the original "big deal" personal injury lawyers in Dallas. When I first started practicing law 30 years ago, Frank was already 20 years into his career. He made a name for himself as a trial lawyer of the highest caliber.

In the early days of my career, I did my best to emulate Franks's approach and, along the way, discovered my own style that has served my clients well.

Frank's most famous case involved a lawsuit against a bus manufacturer. That case centered on evacuating a retirement community in Bellaire, Texas as the residents fled from Hurricane Rita. As the van sat in traffic, it overheated and burst into flames, killing most of the elderly occupants of the bus.

Frank was able to win that case at trial, and all of us in the trial lawyer community were impressed with how he stuck up for some of the most vulnerable people against long odds.

I've had the occasion to work alongside Randall Moore in a handful of cases. I have never been his co-counsel but he has represented co-plaintiffs in a few of the cases I've filed suit in, so we were going against the same defendant even though we repped separate clients. I have always found him to be a professional of the highest caliber and a skilled trial lawyer.

The main reason I think he's one of the best personal injury attorneys in Dallas is that he's one of the very few attorneys fighting the good fight on medical malpractice cases.

In the early 2000s, medical malpractice law changed in Texas. This change made it virtually impossible for a law firm to be profitable in representing clients in medical malpractice cases. While most people don't care about a law firm's profitability, the reality is that when a law firm can't afford to litigate a certain type of case, that type of case goes away. That is what has happened with medical malpractice cases in Texas.

However, Randall Moore has found a way to make medical malpractice cases work for his law firm and clients. He's one of the few in Texas still pursuing those cases and does a heck of a job.

I have an immense amount of respect for him.

Charla is a true believer. If she believes in a client’s cause, it doesn’t matter to her what the stakes are or how big of a challenge the case is, she will take it to trial. Anyone who has seen her in action knows she’s one of the best trial lawyers in Dallas, and anyone who has worked with her or knows her knows she is a great person all around. 

Charla first appeared on my radar many years ago in a dram shop case that another firm had tried to refer to me. The referring attorney had done some major damage to the case and I was leery of getting involved. I have a specific way of handling cases, and cleaning up someone else's mess doesn't fit the bill.

The case was offered to Charla and thankfully, she saved the day. The family she represented was very deserving, and I was glad they found someone to go to bat for them.

5. Kelly Curran - KTC Law Firm

Kelly is a younger lawyer who started his own practice about six years ago. During his career, he has tried somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 car accident cases, which is impressive. I have a feeling that over the course of his career, Kelly will be a major player in the Dallas personal injury market.

The guy has a can-do attitude and is willing to go to the mat in any case. When contacted by people with good cases that don't fit into our docket, we often send them to Kelly. I’ve heard nothing but good things about how he handles cases.
