Lubbock, TX — November 20, 2024, Zak Bol was killed and Benjamin Brown was injured due to an alleged hit-and-run accident at around 7:25 p.m. on Idalou Rd.
According to information from Lubbock Police officials, the accident happened along the Idalou service road.
It appears that 18-year-old Zakeria Bol and 18-year-old Benjamin Brown were on foot at the time. While there, a vehicle reportedly struck the pair, then continued on and left the scene. Due to the collision, Bol was killed. Brown sustained unspecified injuries.
Authorities say they made an arrest, and they say there is a pending charge for failure to stop and render aid causing death. No further information is available right now.

While it’s a positive step to see authorities charging the person they believe to be responsible for this, are they addressing all the factors surrounding the accident? It’s not common for drivers to flee an accident scene just out of panic. More often, there is something specific they don’t want authorities to know about. Was the driver drunk? Were they on drugs? Did they have warrants? Were they engaged in other reckless behavior that could warrant additional consequences? At the end of the day, victims and families deserve to know that all mistakes are being addressed. It remains to be seen if authorities are working to ensure that happens.
