Houston, TX — August 31, 2024, Yeriel Mercado was killed following a motorcycle versus car accident at approximately 11:00 p.m. along U.S. Highway 290.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Yeriel Mercado was traveling on a westbound Kawasaki motorcycle on U.S. 290, Northwest Freeway, in the vicinity northwest of the Tidwell Road overpass when the accident took place.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Nissan Murano. He was reportedly thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the wreck. As he attempted to regain his feet, preliminary reports state that he was struck by a Jeep of unknown make or model. The Jeep allegedly fled the scene, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim.
Mercado suffered fatal injuries, according to reports, and was declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
