Getting answers for a family after their loved one is killed in a work accident is challenging enough on its own. But a workplace fatality happening in Texas only presents more significant hurdles. Simply put, Texas happens to have the most complex laws surrounding work accidents compared to any other state in the country.

To sum a whole lot of legalese, Texas does not require employers to subscribe to the workers’ comp system. In other words, there isn’t necessarily a guaranteed path to get families the benefits they deserve after a fatal work accident. This can leave families up against companies whose priorities are far from aligned with getting them the help they deserve—sometimes even opposed to it. So without the right steps to navigate such a complex legal maze, even knowing what happened in an accident may only be a small piece of the larger puzzle.
