Edinburg, TX — March 4, 2023, Wesley Frayre was injured as the result of an accident allegedly involving intoxicated driving.
Officials said that the incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. along Mile 17 1/2 Road at the intersection of Monmack Road.
Initial details say that 22-year-old Wesley Frayre was in a Dodge Charger on westbound Mile 17 1/2 Rd. While waiting at the stop sign, it appears a Buick Enclave did not slow down and rear-ended Frayre’s vehicle. As a result, Frayre had injuries described as incapacitating. The other driver, apparently unharmed, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If those allegations are true, then it’s just a shame to see another crash added to the countless around the state police say involved alcohol. Drunk driving is an awful plague in Texas, and it’s understandable why comment sections in the news are usually filled with local residents demanding something be done. Seeing a driver face a court date is one possible step, of course, but there are other steps to consider, as well.
One, for example, involves finding out where the driver got their alcohol. More often than people may realize, crashes like this involve someone that was illegally over-served by a local provider. If a bar or similar venue over-serves someone who’s obviously intoxicated, they open themselves up to serious consequences, including fines, liability under dram shop, or even losing their liquor license.
Most everyone understands that drunk drivers can be held accountable, but I’ve gone to great lengths to speak about the consequences businesses can face for putting their communities in danger. Maybe nothing like that happened here, but the continuing war against drunk driving must be fought on multiple fronts.
