Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When a single-vehicle crash ends in serious injury, it’s easy to assume the driver simply lost control. But without a full investigation, that’s just a guess.

Did the authorities dedicate enough time, tools, and resources to the investigation?
Crashes on curved roads demand careful scene analysis—tire marks, steering input, and roadway conditions all matter. If that wasn’t documented, the full picture may be missing.

Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash?
A sudden off-road drift could be the result of mechanical failure—brakes, steering, or tire issues. Only a proper inspection of the Chevy Cruze can confirm or rule that out.

Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected?
Modern vehicles often store crash-related data. Speed, braking, and steering records could clarify what actually happened. But if it wasn’t retrieved early, it may already be lost.

Takeaways:

  • Single-car crashes still need full investigation.
  • Mechanical issues may not be obvious without inspection.
  • Vehicle data can explain how control was lost.
