Cameron County, TX — March 20, 2024, Victoria Lee Trevino was injured as the result of a car accident at around 2:30 a.m. along West Colorado Avenue.
Initial details from investigators say the crash happened southwest of Rio Hondo at the intersection of West Colorado Street/F.M. 106 and Combes Rio Hondo Road.

It appears that 33-year-old Victoria Trevino was in a Nissan Altima going westbound on Colorado Street. Trevino was reportedly taking the fork to go left toward southbound Combes Rio Hondo. While rounding the curve, the vehicle somehow went off-road and overturned. Trevino reportedly had serious injuries as a result.

The cause of the crash isn’t clear right now, and I have to wonder exactly how thorough authorities are being with their investigations. Frankly, single-vehicle wrecks are generally low on their list of priorities. Considering some of the possible factors that can lead to a crash like this, could they be overlooking something important here?
For example, authorities said nothing about speeding or the driver not wearing their seatbelt here. Most modern vehicles would be able to protect a driver in a moderate crash. Was this accident more serious than reports suggest? Were the serious injuries here just dumb luck? Or could it be that a defective safety device, such as a faulty airbag or seatbelt, led to serious injuries which were otherwise preventable?
I’m not suggesting I know anything about this crash others don’t. I just have lost count of how many times authorities missed something important in an accident like this because they either lacked the tools or lacked the motivation to properly investigate the facts. Hopefully the same isn’t true here, but it would be far from the first time.
