UPDATE (March 13, 2024): Recent reports clarify what occurred during this accident. According to these reports, 23-year-old Victor Javier Alvarez Muñoz was traveling in a southeast bound Ford Explorer SUV along Interstate Highway 635 in the vicinity southeast of La Prada Drive when the accident occurred.
The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reported to have been rainy and wet. Officials indicate that these conditions in conjunction with a failure to properly control speed were likely factors leading up to the wreck. The Ford reportedly lost control, veering left and colliding with the left side of a trailer that had been in tow behind an 18-wheeler. Following this, the vehicle spun clockwise and struck the barrier on the southwest side of the roadway. It then continued to spin toward the opposite side of the roadway, ejecting Muñoz during the spin before colliding with the barrier on the northeast side. The vehicle apparently came to a stop with its front left tire pinning the victim on the ground. Muñoz was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.

Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle failed to safely maintain its lane of travel and allegedly lost control. During the accident, the vehicle apparently struck the concrete barriers on both the right and left sides of the roadway. Muñoz was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck, reports say. He incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the accident.
