Single-vehicle wrecks get a lot of attention on this blog because, frankly, they don’t get enough attention anywhere else. Drivers often end up getting blamed for crashes they couldn’t avoid because folks just think they know what happened. But what about mechanical issues? Tire blowouts? Road hazards? Medical emergencies? Manufacturers’ defects? Unlikely or not, these things happen.
Sure, things like distraction, fatigue, and drunk driving are a lot more common. But even those possibilities could involve extenuating circumstances that a police investigation on its own rarely ever addresses. With this crash, investigators could find that nothing out of the ordinary happened here. Or, they could find this is one of those exceptions involving factors beyond the driver’s control. Either way, it’s best to just avoid jumping to conclusions and to let the evidence speak for itself.
