Accident Report

June 4, 2026, a man was killed as the result of a utility truck accident at around 7:25 a.m. along the Eastex Freeway.

Initial details about the accident say that the accident happened in the area of Crosstimbers Street and I-69/US 59, underneath the freeway.

Preliminary statements say that an unidentified man may have been sleeping “on the pavement” underneath the Eastex Freeway. A utility worker was replacing lights beneath the interstate at the time. While driving the truck, it apparently went “over a curb”, and the man was run over. Due to this, the man sustained fatal injuries.

Authorities say the truck initial left the area but returned and spoke with authorities. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s possible that this all was simply unavoidable, and it was a matter of people being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That said, the law holds drivers of commercial vehicles to a high standard about being aware of their surroundings and handling their vehicle with care. Investigators need to consider those standards as they relate to this accident.

It’s unclear from current reports if the truck reportedly driving over a curb was to access or leave an area directly relevant to the work they were doing or if they just made a turn too sharp and hopped the curb. That’s at least one detail that I hope authorities are working hard to clear up. Regardless of who the victim was or why they were in the area, they lost their life, and they aren’t around to give their side of the story. It’s important investigators gather as much evidence as possible to tell that story in the victim’s stead.
