UPDATE (January 5, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify some of the information concerning this incident. According to these reports, Ugochukwu Mbakwe was traveling in an eastbound Toyota Corolla in the westbound lanes of Ben White Boulevard. This wrong-way incident resulted in the head-on collision with an oncoming westbound SUV.

While Mbakwe was killed due to the crash, the occupants of the SUV—a 64-year-old man and 58-year-old Eva Lei—reportedly sustained suspected moderate injuries. They were both transported to local medical facilities by EMS for treatment.

UPDATE (December 1, 2023): The person who was killed as a result of this accident has been identified as 35-year-old Ugochukwu Mbakwe.

Austin, TX — November 20, 2023, one person was killed and two were injured in a head-on car accident around midnight on Ben White Boulevard.

Authorities report that the accident took place on W. Ben White Boulevard in the vicinity of S. 1st Street and Menchaca Road.

For as yet unconfirmed reasons, one vehicle collided head-on with another; one person was declared deceased at the scene as a result of the accident. Two other victims involved in the incident sustained injuries and were transported to a local medical center by emergency medical services in order to receive treatment. The identities of those involved have not yet been made public.
