Lubbock, TX — April 18, 2024, Tyler Obed Thompson was killed and Kahlil De Vaughn was injured in a car accident just before 8:00 p.m. along C.R. 1700.

According to authorities, two 21-year-old men—Tyler Obed Thompson and Kahlil De Vaughn—were traveling in a northbound Honda Fit on C.R. 1700 approaching the C.R. 8300 intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southbound Chevrolet Equinox failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left, crossing over the center line and entering the northbound lane of the roadway. The Honda attempted to avoid a collision by swerving to the left, but at the same time the Equinox re-entered its original lane, as well. This resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.

Reports state that Thompson suffered fatal injuries due to the wreck. De Vaughn also sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
