Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When two large commercial trucks collide, as in this crash, it raises important questions about what might have gone wrong and how it could have been prevented. From my experience, crashes involving 18-wheelers often have layers of complexity that require thorough investigation to fully understand.
What caused these two trucks to collide? Did one driver make an error, such as failing to yield or misjudging a maneuver? Was speed a factor? Or could there have been environmental issues like poor visibility or slick road conditions that made safe driving more difficult? Each of these possibilities must be explored to get a clear picture of the incident.
Mechanical failure is another potential factor. Were both trucks properly maintained, and were all safety systems functional at the time of the crash? Issues with brakes, tires, or steering could easily contribute to a wreck of this nature, and investigating the maintenance records of the vehicles can provide crucial insight.
The role of the trucking companies also warrants scrutiny. Were the drivers adequately trained and operating under reasonable schedules that minimized fatigue? Did the companies take appropriate measures to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy? A failure in any of these areas could shift some of the responsibility for the collision onto the companies themselves.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
