Grayson County, TX — November 28, 2023, one person was injured following a truck versus tractor accident at around 4:14 p.m. along F.M. 121.
Preliminary details from officials indicate that the crash happened near Scoggins Road, between Tioga and Gunter.

According to investigations, a 65-year-old man was in a Freightliner tractor-trailer going eastbound along F.M. 121. While crossing a bridge on a slight curve, authorities say the truck driver’s vision was “limited,” and he could not see that there was a tractor hauling a wide piece of farm equipment that took up both lanes of the bridge. As a result, the vehicles collided, and the 18-wheeler crashed off-road.
The Freightliner driver reportedly had incapacitating injuries while the driver of the tractor apparently wasn’t hurt. No charges or citations were mentioned by authorities.

One question I have would be whether or not the driver of the tractor really took proper precautions trying to cross this bridge.
It should be clear to anyone with experience driving—commercial vehicles or not—that it is not acceptable to do something with the expectation that everyone else is going to react to your actions. A driver in a vehicle blocking lanes of a narrow bridge can’t just think, “Oh, well anyone coming by can just stop and wait for me to get out of the way.”
The reality is the law expects people to be as safe as possible, and if it becomes necessary to create a hazard on the road, steps should be taken to warn other motorists, to make obstructions visible, or otherwise flag down traffic until the hazards can be cleared.
It’s entirely possible this tractor driver did everything right, and authorities just didn’t include any of those details. But if there were no precautions to ensure that the approaching truck driver could have safely avoided this crash, how could any reasonably prudent truck driver be expected to avoid such a sudden obstacle?
