Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they stem from simple mistakes or bad timing. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks, especially those carrying hazardous materials like fuel, often involve multiple factors that require thorough investigation. This collision on U.S. Highway 69 is no exception.

Tanker trucks carrying thousands of gallons of fuel pose unique risks on the road due to their heavy weight and the dangerous nature of their cargo. Investigators should examine whether the tanker truck driver was properly handling the vehicle, whether the truck was well-maintained, and if any mechanical issues contributed to the accident. Additionally, questions about the pickup’s actions leading up to the collision are equally important to determine the full picture of what led to the crash.

If the tanker truck was operating under a commercial company, it’s essential to explore whether the company followed all safety protocols regarding driver training and vehicle maintenance. Drivers hauling hazardous materials must be specially trained to safely manage these loads, and any oversight by the company could point to shared responsibility for the collision.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
