Houston, TX — November 15, 2024, two people were injured in a car versus truck accident that took place on the South Beltway service road.
According to authorities, an 18-wheeler was traveling in the eastbound lanes of the South Beltway service road in the vicinity of the Sam Houston Tollway when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a passenger vehicle allegedly ran a red light. Despite evasive actions taken by the 18-wheeler, a collision still took place between the truck and the passenger vehicle. The truck came to a stop after crashing into some powerlines.
The person who had been in the car suffered critical injuries over the course of the accident. The driver of the truck sustained injuries of unknown severity, as well, according to reports. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Accidents like this one, where a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler collide in an intersection, often raise important questions about how the crash unfolded and whether it could have been avoided. While reports suggest the passenger vehicle may have run a red light, in my experience, determining fault in intersection collisions often requires a more detailed investigation into all contributing factors.
One critical area to examine is the actions of both drivers leading up to the crash. If the passenger vehicle ran the red light as alleged, investigators should determine why. Factors such as distraction, impairment, or excessive speed could have played a role. Similarly, the truck driver’s response should be reviewed to assess whether they had enough time to react safely. Even when evasive actions are taken, the effectiveness of those maneuvers can be influenced by the truck’s speed, braking capabilities, and load weight.
The trucking company’s role in this incident also deserves scrutiny. Companies have a duty to ensure their drivers are trained to handle emergency situations safely and that their trucks are properly maintained to perform under such conditions. If the investigation reveals any lapses in training, equipment upkeep, or operational policies, the company may bear some responsibility for what occurred.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
