Hollister, ID — October 28, 2024, two people were killed following a multi-vehicle truck accident that took place along U.S. Highway 93.
According to authorities, a man and woman ages 64 and 60, respectively, were traveling in a northbound Toyota 4Runner on U.S. 93 when the accident occurred.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Toyota veered into the opposing lane of traffic where it was involved in a collision with an oncoming Volvo 18-wheeler. The impact caused the 18-wheeler to lose control, swerving into the northbound lane where it struck a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.
Both the man and the woman from the Toyota suffered fatal injuries due to the wreck and were declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries have been reported at this time. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of those involved—are not available at this point. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they’re simply the result of unfortunate timing or a brief loss of control. However, based on my experience, multi-vehicle crashes involving large trucks often require a detailed investigation to uncover the sequence of events and any underlying factors that contributed to the wreck.
A key question for investigators in this case is what led the Toyota to veer into the opposing lane of traffic, setting off a deadly chain reaction. Determining whether the driver experienced a distraction, mechanical issue, or medical event could be crucial in piecing together the initial cause of the accident. Additionally, understanding the condition of the roadway, visibility, and any signs of evasive maneuvers by the Toyota or the Volvo 18-wheeler could offer important context for what happened in those critical moments.
Once the Toyota crossed into the opposing lane, the 18-wheeler’s response also warrants close scrutiny. Large trucks face unique challenges when it comes to making emergency adjustments due to their size and weight. Investigators will need to look at whether factors like driver training, vehicle speed, and cargo stability might have affected the truck driver’s ability to regain control after the initial impact. It’s also important to examine if the 18-wheeler was operating under a commercial company, as this could raise questions about the company’s adherence to safety standards and driver preparation for handling sudden, high-risk situations.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
