Osceola County, FL — October 18, 2024, a 30-year-old Orlando woman was killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County.
According to preliminary reports, the accident happened around 1:00 a.m. along the southbound turnpike near mile marker 202. Investigators say the victim was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport south when it may have blown a tire. The car swerved off the road and struck the center guardrail, then went back through the road and came to rest partially blocking the outside lane and shoulder.
After the car came to a stop the woman allegedly exited the vehicle; a short time later, a southbound semi-truck crashed into her and the rear-left quarter of the Chevy. The truck then ran into a nearby cable barrier and overturned in a ditch.

The Chevy driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The truck driver was reportedly unhurt.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Early reports typically only manage a rough sketch of what happened in any given accident. The account of events in Troy is no different; it gives a general idea of the timeline, but it’s very light on specifics. There are still many lingering questions that urgently need answers.
Here’s a few off the top of my head: If the car blew a tire, why? Was it old? Defective? Did it hit something big in the road? If so, where did the debris come from? After the car stopped, how long was it there before the truck passed through? Were the car’s lights on? Does the area have streetlights? Did anything block the truck driver’s view of the disabled car? Was the trucker awake, alert, and paying attention to the road? If not, why not? Did other drivers successfully go around the Chevy?
All those questions and more need answers, and those answers will only come from careful and diligent investigation. At the very least, the victim’s loved ones deserve to know every effort was made to bring them the truth. Let’s hope local authorities feel the same way.
