Truck Accident on US 50 in Finney County, KS

It appears that a 16-year-old was driving a Chrysler Sebring northbound on Camppus Drive at the time. A 13-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 2-year-old were riding as passengers. As the Chrysler was making a left turn, a semi-truck traveling eastbound crashed into it.

Due to the accident, the two young children reportedly sustained serious injuries. The driver and the other teenager had possible minor injuries. The truck driver reportedly wasn’t injured. Right now, additional details are unavailable.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Clearly, investigators will need to look into things like vehicle speed, right-of-way, cell phone records, and other important crash-related details to find out how all of this could have been avoided. With that in mind, my hope is that the age of the driver of the car doesn’t impact the investigations. I’ve unfortunately seen many cases where authorities just assumed a teenage driver did something wrong without really considering the actual evidence. While teens are statistically more likely to make mistakes, it’s important that the facts tell the story, not mere assumptions. If authorities can’t set that bias aside, then it’s important the investigations end up in the hands of professionals who can.
