Bastrop County, TX — November 21, 2024, two people were injured in a truck accident at approximately 8:30 a.m. along U.S. Highway 290.
According to authorities, a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were traveling in a Toyota Camry in the vicinity of the U.S. 290 and S.H. 95 intersection when the accident took place.

The intersection is reportedly controlled by a traffic signal. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Volvo 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow disregarded the traffic signal and attempted a left turn at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the truck and the right side of the Camry.
The 24-year-old in the Camry sustained moderate injuries, while the 26-year-old suffered serious injuries, according to reports. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When crashes like this one occur, people often assume they are caused by a simple driver mistake, such as misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic. However, in my experience, collisions involving 18-wheelers and passenger vehicles often demand a more thorough investigation to uncover the full range of contributing factors.
Why did the truck driver reportedly disregard the traffic signal and make the left turn at an unsafe time? Was the driver distracted, rushing to meet a deadline, or unable to see the Camry due to poor situational awareness? Could mechanical issues, such as problems with the truck’s steering or brakes, have made it difficult to stop or maneuver safely? These are critical questions that need careful examination to determine how and why the collision occurred.
The role of the trucking company must also be evaluated. Companies are responsible for ensuring their drivers are properly trained to operate their vehicles safely and are held accountable to follow traffic laws. Did the driver receive sufficient training to safely navigate intersections and assess traffic signals? Additionally, companies are obligated to maintain their vehicles in roadworthy condition. Was the Volvo truck adequately inspected and maintained, or did preventable issues contribute to the crash? Investigating these factors can help establish whether systemic failures within the trucking operation played a part in the collision.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
