Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When people are seriously hurt in a crash like the one reported along State Highway 35, it’s important to remember that the first reports rarely tell the full story. After over 30 years handling serious accident cases across Texas, I know from experience that getting real answers starts with asking the right questions.

First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? It’s easy to assume that a driver simply “failed to yield,” but a proper investigation must go deeper—looking into whether road design, obstructed views, confusing signage, or even another motorist’s actions played a role. Without a complete review, critical factors could be missed.

Second, has anyone looked into whether a vehicle defect contributed to the collision? Mechanical failures such as brake issues, steering malfunctions, or lighting problems could cause or worsen a situation like this. Thoroughly inspecting both vehicles for mechanical problems is an important step in ensuring all potential causes are considered.

Third, has all available electronic data been collected from the vehicles involved? Modern motorcycles and cars often store crucial information like speed, braking, and throttle position immediately before a crash. Preserving and reviewing this data could shed light on important details that eyewitness accounts or surface-level inspections might miss.

Answering these three questions is critical to making sure that no stone is left unturned in understanding the causes of a crash like this. Serious wrecks deserve serious investigation, not assumptions. Getting clear answers to these questions is crucial for those seeking to understand what happened and why—and it’s the least that can be done to help those affected find the clarity and closure they deserve.
