Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the more challenging aspects of single-vehicle wrecks is just ensuring authorities didn’t overlook anything important. The reality is single-vehicle wrecks are not often a high priority for them, which can result in incomplete or inaccurate investigations. I get calls all the time from people who feel their situation isn’t getting the attention it deserves, and a lot of those calls are about crashes like this one: late night or early morning crashes where the victim isn’t here to tell their side of the story. That’s usually why independent investigations into these accidents are a good idea.

Sometimes, a more thorough investigation can confirm that police have all the facts, and that alone can be a significant weight off of a family affected by a crash like this. Other times, though, the investigations can show authorities either jumped to conclusions or rushed the investigations and missed something important. Either way, it’s important that the evidence is allowed to speak for itself. Even if something seems unlikely, a grieving family deserves to know they’re getting the whole story.
