Accident Report

May 30, 2026, a toll booth worker was injured following a tractor-trailer accident around 9:30 a.m. on I-77.

Initial statements from authorities say the crash happened at the toll booth along southbound lanes near mile marker 83.

It appears that a semi-truck pulling a wide load was trying to pass through the toll booth at the time. The wide load apparently struck a booth, pinning the worker inside underneath another vehicle.

The worker apparently had non-life-threatening injuries. Right now, additional details about the accident remain under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

People might look at this and just assume it’s all about a driver misjudging how much space they had to work with, and maybe that’s true. But commercial drivers are held to high standards for a reason. They should be able to navigate these situations properly. Failing to do so raises all kinds of questions about what might be going on behind the scenes.

Is the driver inexperienced? Are they poorly trained? Do they have a history of making mistakes? Was the cargo not loaded properly? Was the truck and trailer an appropriate size for the cargo, or was the cargo dangerously hanging off beyond typical wide-load limits?

My hope is simply that authorities don’t write this off as a simple “whoopsie-daisy” when it could actually be a symptom of serious problems that need to be addressed.
