How Did This Accident Occur?

At this point, we don’t even know how these vehicles came together. Did the truck rear-end the other vehicle, or vice versa? Did they collide while changing lanes? Was one vehicle stopped or slowing for traffic? Did a mechanical issue contribute to this crash? The investigation, which is ongoing, should address all of these questions as authorities work to determine what happened on U.S. 49.

Investigators will scrutinize vehicle data, witness statements, physical evidence and available video footage to reconstruct this crash, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.

If authorities suspect a mechanical problem, a qualified expert should examine the vehicles in a laboratory setting before they are scrapped or repaired. That is beyond the capabilities of most law enforcement agencies, in my experience, but the people who were hurt in this accident deserve to know as much as possible about this crash.
