With single-vehicle wrecks, it’s important to consider if investigators are really giving the crash the attention it deserves. Single-vehicle accidents just aren’t a high priority for a lot of departments, so officers sometimes move on without really considering all possible factors. Throughout my career, I’ve seen all kinds of complex issues slip through the cracks. Mechanical defects, tire failure, road design flaws, lack of signage or lighting, faulty safety devices, etc. Even if those possibilities are unlikely, it’s important that the evidence can speak for itself. Anything short of a thorough independent accident reconstruction isn’t likely to achieve that.
