Accident Report

April 13, 2026, Thomas Carter lost his life in a delivery truck accident shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Natural Bridge Caverns Road (F.M. 3009).

According to authorities, 71-year-old Thomas Carter, who is from New Braunfels, was traveling in a southbound Lexus SUV on Natural Bridge Caverns Road in the vicinity of the Ponderosa Way intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound delivery truck was allegedly traveling at unsafe speeds and veered left of center, crossing over into the oncoming lane of traffic. There, it was involved in a collision with the southbound Lexus.

Carter—who had reportedly sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision—was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Seeing as how the truck driver in this accident has been cited as being at fault, most people might believe that to be the end of the investigation. When it comes to vehicle accident investigations, though, a citation is not the end of the story; it’s just the beginning. I’ve learned over the last three decades of my career that truck accidents are more complex than they appear on the surface.

Allow me to elaborate with a hypothetical. In this case, something might have gone wrong with the truck mechanically to lead to its excessive speed—like a throttle issue or brake failure. The fact is, authorities can’t gather absolutely all the relevant facts from the scene of the accident alone. If there was a mechanical malfunction or a product defect behind the wreck, then that will only be able to be parsed through an in-depth vehicle inspection done by trained professionals in a laboratory setting.

Hopefully, the authorities in charge of this investigation make sure to get that type of vehicle inspection. However, if they fail to take that step, then a third party can always get it done instead. That way, any issues with the truck that might otherwise have flown under the radar can be brought to light. After all, the people left behind by the victim deserve to have clear answers as to how and why this accident took place, not just vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation.
