Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they stem from simple mistakes or misjudgments. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks often involve multiple factors that need thorough investigation. This incident on U.S. 78 is likely no exception, especially given the challenges associated with early morning travel.
One area that should receive close attention is the positioning and movement of both vehicles just before the impact. Early morning conditions often come with visibility limitations, and any slight miscalculation can have severe consequences when a large vehicle like an 18-wheeler is involved. Investigators will need to determine if factors such as low visibility, potential glare from headlights, or the truck’s speed or position played any role in this collision. Understanding these elements is essential to fully grasp the dynamics that led to this outcome.
Additionally, it’s crucial to consider the role of the trucking company in maintaining safe operating standards. Trucks traveling in dark or low-visibility hours should be equipped with reflective materials, well-functioning lights, and other safety features that increase their visibility on the road. If there were any deficiencies in these safety measures, that oversight could bear some responsibility. It’s a reminder that companies have a duty to ensure their vehicles are as safe as possible for all road users, especially in conditions where visibility might be compromised.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
