Lubbock County, TX — September 8, 2024, a teenage boy was killed following a single-car accident shortly after 7:30 a.m. along U.S. Highway 84.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old boy was traveling in an allegedly stolen Hyundai Sonata on U.S. Highway 84 in the moments leading up to the accident.

Officials indicate that authorities attempted a traffic stop for the stolen vehicle, but it refused to stop, instead trying to flee. For reasons yet to be confirmed, the Sonata failed to safely maintain its lane of travel, veering off of the roadway and colliding with a flatbed train car. The Hyundai reportedly became engulfed in flames as a result of the crash. The teen suffered reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
