Jack County, TX — June 16, 2024, one teen was killed and three others were injured in a single-car accident at about 3:45 a.m. along U.S. Highway 281.

According to authorities, four teens—three age sixteen and one age 14—were traveling in a northbound Dodge Dakota on U.S. 281 in the vicinity north of Perrin when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Dodge failed to safely navigate a curve in the roadway. It reportedly veered off of the road and struck several things, overturning over the course of the accident and eventually coming to a stop resting on its left side.

One 16-year-old passenger from Bridgeport suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene, according to reports. The 16-year-old driver from Paradise sustained apparently severe injuries, while the two other passengers, also from Bridgeport, incurred minor injuries. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.

Authorities mentioned that they were looking into alcohol as a possible factor. It’s possible that’s just standard procedure with early morning wrecks for this department. However, it would obviously be incredibly serious if alcohol was found to be a factor. Part of the reason for that is because it raises the possibility someone provided the alcohol to a minor. Whether that’s an individual or a local establishment putting the community at risk, that’s behavior that can’t go unaddressed.
