How Did This Accident Occur?

Given the age of the driver, people are likely to just assume the victim did something wrong and move on. Driver error is certainly common in single-vehicle wrecks as well as crashes involving young, inexperienced drivers. But I’ve been handling serious car accident cases for more than 30 years at this point. It’s never been helpful to jump to conclusions. All it does is risks letting crucial information slip through the cracks.

For example, what if there was a problem with the victim’s vehicle? Brake failure, a tire blowout, steering issues, problems with lane assistance or other automatic driving systems—common or not, these should be part of any proper accident reconstruction. Unfortunately, this often slips through the cracks. I can’t even remember the last time a family came to me with a car accident case where authorities already ruled out possible mechanical issues.

If nothing else, it’s important families know the investigations are being handled fairly. Regardless of the victim’s age, it’s the evidence that has the final say. Jumping to conclusions simply won’t do any good, and I hope that’s not happening here.
