Alleged Intoxicated Driver Accident on Alief Clodine Road in Houston, TX

It appears that a 17-year-old girl was in a Toyota Corolla going westbound along Alief Clodine. While passing H Street, it appears a northbound Mitsubishi continued straight across eastbound lanes, crashing into the side of the girl’s vehicle. As a result, both the teen driver and the Mitsubishi driver sustained serious injuries.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

According to Harris County officials, the Mitsubishi driver is facing a charge for intoxication assault. While other details aren’t confirmed, that allegation alone can carry a lot of complexity. Folks tend to think authorities just charge the driver, and that’s the end of the story. But if handled properly, investigations could also consider if the intoxicated driver was over-served by an alcohol provider.

In Texas, alcohol providers such as bars and restaurants can be responsible for contributing to a drunk driving accident if they illegally over-served the intoxicated driver. Unfortunately, this is something that tends to slip through the cracks unless there are experienced independent investigators there to catch what authorities are likely to miss. Have those steps been taken here, or is there still more to this story that has yet to be addressed?
