Hays County, TX — December 19, 2024, Tayler Dollahite and five others were injured in a truck accident at approximately 7:30 a.m. along U.S. Highway 290.
According to authorities, 28-year-old Tayler Dollahite, a five-year-old girl, and an infant girl were traveling in a Toyota Sienna in the vicinity of the U.S. 290 and F.M. 165 intersection when the accident took place.

The intersection is apparently controlled by a traffic signal. The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Chevrolet 3500HD flatbed pickup truck occupied by three men ages 22, 26, and 27 and hauling a trailer disregarded the signal indicated by the traffic light. This resulted in a collision between the right side of the pickup truck and the left side of the Sienna. Dollahite suffered serious injuries over the course of the accident, according to reports. The two children who were with her in the Sienna, as well as all three men from the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries, too. Those who necessitated it were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this one occur, people often focus solely on the immediate collision, assuming it stems from a simple error such as a driver disregarding a traffic signal. While that may be accurate in part, based on my experience handling commercial vehicle accident cases, it’s rarely the whole story. There are often deeper questions about why the collision happened and whether it could have been prevented.
In this case, authorities suggest the Chevrolet flatbed pickup failed to heed a red light, resulting in a collision that injured multiple people, including children. However, it’s important to dig deeper into why the driver disregarded the signal. Was the driver distracted or fatigued? Were they speeding or simply unaware of the signal? A thorough investigation is needed to establish whether human error, environmental factors, or mechanical issues played a role.
The trucking company or organization that owns the Chevrolet flatbed must also be scrutinized. Companies are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and their drivers are trained to safely handle commercial vehicles in various traffic conditions. Were these responsibilities fulfilled? Did the company conduct proper safety checks on the truck and trailer before it was put on the road? Was the driver under any pressure to complete their tasks quickly, potentially at the expense of safety? Answers to these questions could reveal whether company policies contributed to the events that led to the crash.
Additionally, the condition of the truck and its attached trailer warrants attention. Safety features such as brakes, turn signals, and trailer hitch connections must be in optimal working order to ensure vehicles can safely navigate the road. If equipment failure or inadequate maintenance played a role, that could significantly shift the scope of responsibility.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
