UPDATE (April 25, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, 60-year-old Tawnya Sanders was traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Captiva in the southbound lanes of N Capital of Texas Highway for reasons yet to be confirmed. Due to this wrong-way situation, a head-on collision occurred between the Captiva and a southbound Ford Explorer occupied by a 48-year-old man.
Authorities reports that Sanders incurred fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. The man who had been in the Explorer suffered suspected severe injuries, as well. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. The investigation continues.

While details like this can lead people to jump to conclusions, I often stress the importance of considering unlikely possible scenarios, even if it’s just to rule something out. Wrong-way accidents aren’t the exception to that.
For example, there was a situation a while back here in DFW where one of our toll roads saw an unusually high number of wrong-way collisions. Thanks to an independent research project into the issue, it came to light that the signage meant to prevent motorists from going up the exit ramps was too high up. The signs were lowered, and lo and behold, the number of wrong-way accidents went down. I’m not saying that happened here, necessarily, but it goes to show why it’s best to let the evidence speak for itself. If nothing else, those affected by a crash deserve to know they’re getting the whole story.
Austin, TX — March 22, 2024, Tawnya Sanders was killed and another person was injured in a car accident at about 9:30 p.m. on N. Capital of Texas Highway.
According to authorities, Tawnya Sanders was traveling in a southbound SUV along N. Capital of Texas Highway in the vicinity of Ranch Road 2222 when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the SUV was involved in a collision with a second SUV. Sanders incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. The victim who had been behind the wheel of the second SUV sustained suspected severe injuries and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
