Smith County, TX — April 9, 2023, Tessa Bridges and Tanaya Scott were killed and others were injured following a car accident along Highway 31.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 5:25 a.m. along Highway 31 just east of Tyler. It appears that 21-year-old Tanaya Scott, 21-year-old Kaylee Choice, and 28-year-old Blake Lee were in a vehicle traveling along the highway. For reasons unconfirmed, that vehicle crashed head-on with a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Tessa Bridges.
Due to the crash, Tanaya Scott and Tessa Bridges both succumbed to fatal injuries. Kaylee Choice and Blake Lee both had injuries said to be non-life-threatening. No further information about the accident is available at this time.

Early morning wrecks like this can be incredibly challenging for investigators since there usually aren’t that many witnesses to help them know where to look first. Obviously, witness statements are just a piece of the larger picture, but any and all information is crucial for getting victims and families clear answers. That’s why I hope authorities here are able to dedicate enough time and effort to looking into the accident so they don’t overlook anything important. If they’re relying too much on witness testimony, who knows what could slip through the cracks.
