Montgomery County, TX — August 21, 2024, Talitha Quenel, John Stovall, and one other were injured after an alleged DWI accident at 10:15 p.m. along Highway 105.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident occurred in the area of Mesa View, just off McCaleb Road.

According to officials, 25-year-old John Stovall and 26-year-old Talitha Quenel were in a GMC Sierra going eastbound on Highway 105. From the westbound lanes, a Toyota Tundra veered across the median into eastbound lanes, then collided with the GMC. Quenel had serious injuries due to the crash while Stovall’s injuries were minor. The other driver had moderate injuries.

Right now, authorities say that the Toyota driver had been drinking. If that’s true, where was that driver coming from? Generally speaking, people think alcohol-related accidents are always straight-forward. Too often, though, authorities can overlook that there may have been a complicit alcohol provider responsible for the crash, as well.
For example, a case I handled recently involved a drunk driver going into oncoming traffic and hitting a family head-on, nearly killing a young kid. Authorities were quick to charge the driver, but that’s where their efforts ended. Thankfully, the family was keen to explore alternative legal avenues, and that led to us tracking down the bar that illegally over-served the drunk driver. As a result, the bar was held accountable for their role in the crash despite never making it onto the police investigator’s radar.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, but it’s a commonly overlooked aspect of alcohol-related crashes. So much focus goes to the drunk drivers (understandably) that other details fall through the cracks. With more thorough investigations, though, steps can be taken to ensure victims and families know all who wronged them are going to be held accountable.
