Accident Report
May 11, 2026, Sue Letterman was killed and another was injured following a car accident that happened around noon along US Highway 59.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened between Texarkana and Atlanta at the intersection of US 59 and Spillway Park Road.
It appears that 75-year-old Sue Letterman was in a GMC Acadia going eastbound. A 34-year-old man was in a Hyundai going southbound. At the intersection, the vehicles crossed paths and collided.
Due to the collision, Sue Letterman was killed. The Hyundai driver reportedly had injuries. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
This intersection appears to be controlled by a stop sign on Spillway Park Road, so the most likely explanation here is that someone failed to yield. But that doesn’t automatically mean any particular driver is at fault. Even if someone failed to yield, the reasons why that can happen aren’t all so straight-forward.
Just as an example, there was a crash some years ago out of west Texas that I had been following. A man reportedly ran a stop sign, and a truck hit and killed him. That’s all the public ever got to hear. Weeks later, a friend of the firm who did accident reconstruction in the area clued us in to some pretty shocking details.
Prior to that crash, it turned out TxDOT removed the stop signs at the intersection while doing construction work. When they left for the day, though, they forgot to replace the sign. So the victim didn’t really run a stop sign. There was no stop sign to run. So, everyone who simply read the news and jumped to blame the victim ended up blaming someone for something they couldn’t avoid.
Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting that happened here. My point is simply that preliminary investigations rarely tell the whole story. That’s why it’s best folks reserve judgment and focus on what the evidence says. That means getting the crash in the hands of experienced investigators ASAP and getting the victim’s loved ones the answers they deserve.
