Amarillo, TX — March 20, 2025, two people were injured in a street sweeper accident sometime before 7:30 a.m. along North Loop 335 (Hollywood Road).
According to authorities, the accident took place in the vicinity of Hollywood Road and Western Street.
Details surrounding the accident remain scarce. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a collision took place between the front-end of a pickup truck and the rear-end of a street sweeper. Two people reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries due to the wreck. When a pickup truck strikes the rear-end of a street sweeper, the key question isn’t just what happened, but why it happened. In my experience handling vehicle accident cases, wrecks like this rarely occur without multiple contributing factors that need to be examined.
Why did the pickup collide with the street sweeper? Street sweepers typically move slower than regular traffic, especially when actively cleaning the roadway. If the driver of the pickup truck didn’t recognize the speed difference or failed to notice the vehicle in time, investigators need to determine whether distraction, speed, or following too closely played a role. Reviewing dashcam footage, skid marks, and driver cell phone records can offer insight.
Was the street sweeper properly visible and operating within protocol? These vehicles are often equipped with flashing lights and reflective markings, but not all operators follow best practices for ensuring visibility—particularly around curves, intersections, or during low-light hours.
