San Antonio, TX — March 31, 2023, Stacy Nielson and two children were injured after an accident involving an allegedly intoxicated driver on U.S. 90.
Authorities said that the accident happened at around 8:46 p.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 90 and Loop 1604.
It appears that 38-year-old Stacy Nielson and two kids, ages 10 and 14, were in a Volkswagen Jetta on westbound lanes of the highway. Ahead, a witness apparently told investigators that a Ford F-150 was speeding up and slowing down as well as repeatedly veering from one lane to another. That vehicle collided with Nielson’s Jetta.

Due to the collision, the 10-year-old in Nielson’s vehicle was said to have incapacitating injuries. Nielson and the 14-year-old had injuries described as non-incapacitating. No other injuries were reported. Police at this time allege that the 19-year-old driver of the Ford was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Charges were recommended but have not been confirmed.

If what authorities say here is true, then obviously there should be consequences for such reckless actions, especially considering a kid got hurt. But what could make things rather complex is the age of the allegedly drunk driver. Under the drinking age or not, a drunk driver can face serious consequences. But it raises the question of where they got their alcohol.
There are plenty of ways teens can get their hands on alcohol when they’re not supposed to. But the obvious concern for the larger community is that there’s a business that is serving minors. Not only could there be a business that contributed to this awful event, but their behavior may still be putting the public at risk. Is that something authorities have worked to clear up, or will holding all responsible parties accountable require more thorough investigations?
