Smith County, TX — June 30, 2024, one person was killed and another was injured in a single-vehicle truck accident just before 7:15 a.m. along S.H. 31.
According to authorities, two men ages 64 and 49 were traveling in a westbound Isuzu box truck on State Highway 31 in the vicinity west of Farm to Market 850 when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the truck failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered off of the right side of the roadway, entering a roadside ditch before being overcorrected to the left; it crossed over the westbound lane, the center lane, and the eastbound lane before again exiting the roadway. It apparently overturned, coming to a stop resting on its roof. The 49-year-old man suffered fatal injuries, according to reports.
The 64-year-old man sustained suspected serious injuries, though they were not described to have been life-threatening. He was taken to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
