Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s natural for people to assume they result from simple driver error. However, crashes involving large trucks often have more complex causes that require thorough investigation.

In this case, the accident was reportedly caused by a tire blowout, which underscores the critical importance of proper vehicle maintenance. Tire blowouts can have catastrophic consequences, especially for large commercial vehicles like 18-wheelers. When a tire fails, it can cause the driver to lose control, leading to serious accidents like the one described here. It’s crucial that trucking companies and drivers prioritize regular tire inspections and maintenance to ensure that all tires are in good condition and capable of withstanding the demands of long-haul travel.

Tire maintenance involves more than just checking for visible wear and tear. It includes regularly monitoring tire pressure, inspecting for any signs of damage, and replacing tires that have reached the end of their service life. Overloaded vehicles, underinflated tires, or failing to replace worn tires on time can all increase the risk of a blowout, putting not only the truck driver but also everyone else on the road at risk.

If the truck involved in this accident was part of a commercial fleet, the company may also share responsibility for ensuring that all maintenance protocols were followed. Companies have a duty to maintain their vehicles in safe operating condition, which includes proper tire care. Any lapses in maintenance practices can lead to severe consequences, as this incident shows.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
