How Did This Accident Occur?

No doubt, with only a single vehicle involved the wreck happening overnight, many people will be jumping to conclusions about what caused this accident. It’s true that, statistically, driver error plays a part in the majority of car accidents. However, I’ve had the chance to analyze hundreds of single-vehicle accidents over the years; I won’t make the mistake of making that assumption. Why? Because I’ve seen cases where, after the investigation was complete, it turned out that a mechanical malfunction was to blame for the wreck, not the person behind the wheel.

I’m not saying that I know more about this particular accident than anyone else outside of the investigation; I’m simply suggesting a hypothetical. What if the car’s steering malfunctioned, making it impossible for it to safely maintain its lane? In that scenario, the driver could have done little-to-nothing in the moment to keep the vehicle from striking the wall.

The fact is, we won’t know until after the investigation is finished and details have been released. Personally, though, I hope that the authorities who are in charge of investigating this accident are thorough enough. If they are, they will take the time necessary to get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the car so that mechanical malfunctions or product defects can either be ruled out or be brought to light. Even if the authorities don’t get one, a third party investigation can do so in order to cover all the bases.

After all, the people who were affected by this crash deserve to have the whole picture—hard facts backed up by evidence—and not hasty assumptions and convenient excuses.
