How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been in this career for over three decades. In that time, I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of single-vehicle accidents. To be completely honest, since there is still so very little that we know about this accident, there is not much that we can say about how it happened without speculating. It will be prudent, as it almost always is, to wait for the investigation to be completed and their findings to be made public.

That being said, I hope that the investigators are looking beyond the surface-level evidence to the layers beneath. I’ve come to understand that there is no such thing as a simple car accident. Many will believe this to be a cut-and-dried case of driver error, but what if there were underlying causes with the vehicle that caused the wreck. For example, maybe it had a tire blowout, or perhaps experienced brake failure, or even something wrong with the steering mechanism?

Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get to the bottom of it. After all, the people left behind by the victim deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of how and why it occurred. That kind of clarity just can’t be provided by surface-level investigation that just conveniently puts all the blame on the victim.
