Milam County, TX — October 24, 2024, Shellie Jones was injured following a truck accident shortly before 1:30 p.m. along Farm to Market 487.
According to authorities, 57-year-old Shellie Jones was traveling in an eastbound Ford Fusion on F.M. 487 approaching an intersection with a private drive in the vicinity east of F.M. 1600 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound Kenworth 18-wheeler hauling a trailer on F.M. 487 attempted a left turn to head southbound on the private drive at an apparently unsafe time, failing to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic. The Ford swerved right in an attempt to avoid a collision with the truck, but an impact still occurred between the front-left quarter of the Ford and the right side of the 18-wheeler’s trailer.
Jones sustained reportedly serious injuries as a result of the wreck; she was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Accidents involving 18-wheelers making left turns across active lanes of traffic, like this one, often raise questions about whether the driver followed proper safety procedures. From my experience, these types of crashes frequently involve split-second decisions that warrant careful investigation to determine responsibility.
A key issue is whether the truck driver properly assessed oncoming traffic before making the left turn. Commercial drivers are trained to recognize the risks associated with turning across lanes of travel and to yield the right-of-way until it is safe to proceed. The fact that the driver reportedly failed to yield suggests a possible lapse in judgment or attentiveness. Investigators should examine any available dashcam footage, event data recorders, or witness statements to evaluate the decisions made by the driver leading up to the crash.
The trucking company’s role in this incident is also critical. Companies are responsible for ensuring their drivers are properly trained to handle high-risk maneuvers like left turns and adhere to all safety regulations. If the investigation reveals that inadequate training, operational pressures, or other company policies influenced the driver’s actions, the company could share responsibility for the outcome. Reviewing the driver’s training records, the company’s operational guidelines, and its approach to enforcing safety protocols may provide crucial insights.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
