Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

There could be unusual circumstances authorities didn’t mention here, but the most likely explanation for a crash like this is that someone was speeding, following too closely, or not paying attention to the road. It would be great if our communities could rely on all professional drivers to live up to the high standards we hold them to. Unfortunately, they, too, make mistakes, and like any profession, some just don’t exercise the skill and care it takes to do such an important job.

Just about every responsible, experienced trucker I know has about as many horror stories as I do about reckless drivers in their field. They’re just as inclined as anyone to get those people off the road, get companies to clean up their reckless practices, and otherwise take steps to make the roads safer for everyone. It remains to be seen if steps such as those will be necessary in addressing whatever led to this likely avoidable accident.
