Austin, TX — May 17, 2024, Shannon Urbina was injured following a car accident just before 1:15 p.m. along the I.H. 35 service road.
According to authorities, 27-year-old Shannon Urbina was traveling in a northbound Volkswagen Passat in the far right lane of the Interstate Highway 35 service road in the vicinity north of the E. 51st Street intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Mitsubishi Mirage that was exiting the interstate and merging onto the service road crossed over all three lanes of the service road in an attempt to make a right turn at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the front-left corner of the Volkswagen and the right side of the Mirage. Reports state that the Volkswagen had the right of way at the time of the accident.
Urbina suffered reportedly severe injuries as a result of the wreck; she was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
