Fort Worth, TX — October 19, 2024, Sergio Najera was injured due to a car accident at around 4:29 a.m. along Interstate 20.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened at the I-20 and Chilsholm Trail interchange.
According to officials, 28-year-old Sergio Najera was in a Honda Civic traveling along the Chisholm Trail ramp when the vehicle somehow left its lane. As a result, the Honda crashed into the barrier. Najera was seriously injured as a result of the crash.
There did not appear to be any other injuries due to the crash. Additional details are unavailable.

A concern I don’t see enough people express when it comes to crashes like this is whether or not authorities were able to get the victim’s side of the story. If someone is seriously injured in a crash, they’re usually taken to a hospital before authorities are able to speak with them.
Obviously, a prudent investigator would gather the evidence they can from the scene, then follow up with the victims later on when they’re in a better condition. However, it would shock people how often I get calls from folks where authorities rushed through investigations, made their conclusions, and never so much as called the victim to ask them their side of the story.
I can’t say one way or the other what steps authorities took here to make sure they had all the facts straight, so I’d certainly hope to see they were as thorough as possible in their efforts. However, I learned a long time ago in my career to take preliminary details from authorities with a few grains of salt, and I see no reason right now why this crash would be an exception.
