How Did This Accident Occur?
A lot of rear-end accidents happen because someone was looking at their phone, going too fast, or following too closely. However, folks tend to mistakenly believe that’s why all of these crashes happen. That’s just not true.
What if a driver’s brakes failed? What if the truck in front changed lanes suddenly or didn’t have working brake lights? What if there was some other unusual set of circumstances a preliminary crash investigation isn’t likely to cover?
It often takes more thorough accident reconstructions to cover all of this stuff and make sure nothing important slips through the cracks. If authorities have worked to rule out every possibility surrounding this crash, that would be good to hear. However, it’s not the sort of thing I’d ever take for granted. It might take more thorough independent investigations to get the full story.
If anyone has other examples of rear-end collisions that the rear driver couldn’t avoid, share them in the comments.
