Girl Injured in Mobility Scooter Accident on Coronado Hills Drive in Austin, TX

According to officials, an 8-year-old girl was riding with her mother on a mobility scooter which was reportedly crossing eastbound Coronado Hills. While going across, an eastbound Ram 1500 pickup hit the scooter, apparently causing the girl to suffer serious injuries.

The pickup reportedly fled the scene, but police say they identified that driver. That person was allegedly intoxicated due to alcohol at the time and was recommended to face a charge for intoxication assault. If that’s true, did authorities find out where that alcohol came from?

The reason that matters is because people rightfully want to see accountability following drunk driving accidents—especially ones involving a child. But authorities too often start and stop their investigations at the driver when there could be an alcohol provider also responsible for their role in the accident.

I’ll give a perfect example. Not long ago, a family came to us because a drunk driver hit their car, causing their son to suffer serious injuries. When we asked if authorities knew where the alcohol came from, they were totally lost. Authorities never even brought it up. Sure enough, when we looked into the bar, we found clear evidence proving they illegally over-served the drunk driver. The authorities? No where to be found. It wasn’t until after investigating the bar for a personal injury case that they were brought to light and faced any kind of consequences at all.

Maybe nothing like that happened here, or maybe authorities have been more thorough than their public statements suggest. That said, I’ve seen too many crashes like this not get the attention they deserve. I’d hate to find out it was yet another serious crash officials let slip through the cracks.
