Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

In situations like this, it’s important to understand not just what caused the crash but also why it happened. If the school bus driver made a mistake, was it isolated, or was it a sign of bigger problems?

In my experience, mistakes behind the wheel of commercial vehicles is often a sign of issues behind the scenes. It could be drivers with a lack of experience, improper training, being overworked or pressured to take risks behind the wheel, etc. If that driver’s employer isn’t set on the straight and narrow, more people could get hurt.

That’s why thorough investigations will be so important here. It’s one thing to see there’s accountability for what happened here. It’s another matter to reassure families who put their kids on these buses that it won’t happen again.
