Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

After any serious accident like this, the public is all generally on the same page: the victim’s family deserves justice. The driver seems to be on the path to having their day in court, but is that all there is to this story?

Intoxicated driving accidents are unique in that they can involve outside parties not directly involved in the crash itself. If authorities were to determine that alcohol was the intoxicant here, for example, they could find where that alcohol came from. Any evidence showing a local alcohol provider over-served the driver could then lead to that provider being held accountable, whether that be through criminal charges, civil liability, or administrative penalties from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC).

If it turns out drugs were the issue here, though, that all may not come up. But until authorities are certain they know all of the facts surrounding this accident, the pursuit to get the victim’s loved ones the justice they deserve may be far from over.
